Fara's Story

When I was 33 years old, I was in a horrible car accident that changed my world. I suffered a head injury from an airbag exploding in my face and blinding me temporarily in my left eye and causing permanent vision problems. I had severe neck and shoulder damage, and a wrist and back injury. I had to learn to cope in a new reality with my many health issues. I had pain 24/7, extreme fatigue, a foggy brain, weakness in my muscles, and depression.

I felt like I was never going to get better. I gained 90 pounds because I couldn’t exercise and my body had been thrown out of balance in many ways. I still remember the day I was told by a doctor that I was obese and pre-diabetic. This led to more depression and self-esteem issues.

I had to do something!

I didn’t want to be diabetic, overweight and barely functioning the rest of my life. I was 38 when I decided to take control of what I could.

After trying many things without success, I found an eating plan that worked for me and I began to understand that I had a metabolism problem. This realization changed my world. I began eating differently than before. I ate a lot of protein and vegetables and no bread, cereal, rice, pasta, etc. I spaced my meals and snacks to balance my blood sugars and I started feeling better. I found an exercise program I could do that did not cause more pain, which allowed me to lose 90 pounds and keep it off.

This gave me a new life and started me on my journey of healing.

I was able to regain muscle, my memory improved, I had more stamina, and I found joy again. I was so excited about the changes I was feeling, I started implementing my knowledge and experience with my clients with amazing results.

My family has also benefited in many ways from the same information about nutrition and health. My parents have had disabilities for years so we moved into a home together so my husband and I could provide better care for them and I could help facilitate better habits.

I keep balance in my life by spending time with my grandchildren, family and friends. My husband and I like hiking, traveling, and watching movies. I have been fluent in American Sign Language for over 15 years and take any opportunity I can to maintain my skills.
